cc carb to non-cc carb

hey i was wondering if anyone has done this? im sure someone has.. its for my dads 83 elcamino... the carbs shot and i was gonna give him my old edlebrok 600 non-cc carb....if i simply bolted it on and just left the old wire plug in dangling there what would happen? would it work right? would warning lights come on and such? lookin for all the info i can get.. i heard somethings about problems with lockup converters and needing to change distributers.. the car has a th 350 with stock stall converter.. i dont believe th 350s ever had lockup converters but please please correct me if im wrong.. will i just have to change the carb distribtor and take the check engine light out? thanks!

First do a search on the topic, just type in cc carb to non-cc carb. There is a recent thread on the subject that should come up near the top of the search that will answer most of your questions. If you still have questions, then post them here. I'm 95% sure you're right about the 350's not having lockup.

There have been TH350 & TH350C transmissions.

The "C" models had a lock-up torque converter.

With non-CC carb, you need a non-CC distributor, also commonly called vacuum/mechanical advance.
