Urgent! Choke problems

Okay, I was driving down the road and had to stop for some construction and when i stoped my choke light came on and the electic choke engaged. And it will not come off!! I have turned the car off and restarted it and it is still on! I Have a Holley 600cfm double pumper with electirc choke if that helps. So any ideas?

Yes.

The "Choke" light in reality has nothing to do with the Choke. It is actually the "Alternator" light. However, the circuits for the 2 things are interconnected in such a way that the Choke will not get power unless the Alternator is actually working and charging.

So: your alternator has taken a dump on you. Leave your carb and wiring alone, and replace the alternator. Everything else will return to working correctly.

The alternator will do this?
It did this right after i turned the heater on(i forgote to mention that). I just had the alt. tested sunday and it tested fine. I just tried unplugging the positive wire to the choke and it didn't make a difference. The choke was still stoke on even after a couple of hard revs. So are you sure it is that alternator?

Pretty sure...

Have you checked it to see if it's actually charging when it's on the car?

The electric supply to the choke makes it come off, not go on. So if there's no 12V there (as there won't be if the alt isn't working) then the choke will close, and stay closed basically forever.

Okay i have replaced the alternator and the choke disengaged but the choke light is still staying on.

What could be causing this and is it safe to still drive the car?

I thought (assumed) the power to the choke made it turn on! Once again Rb, you have taught me something. What do I need to be looking for for my choke NOT engaging??
