help me select my carb please

Ive got an 84 Trans Am with the LG4 motor in it. I would like to know what carb you guys think would be the best for performance and economy at the same time. With rocketing gas prices i really would like to get about 20 MPG out of my T/A... any ideas on how i could do that without reducing HP?

THANKS,

TOM

Rebuild the factory CC Q-jetcarb and go to the tech articles https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/quadrajet.shtml on this board for info on how you can make it a much better performer.Any aftermarket carb you go with will require you to remove all computer control systems along with emissions systems..which from the sounds of it...you don't want.Besides...20mpg will be hard to get with most any aftermarket carb..not saying it can't be done.It will be easier and cheaper to accomplish this with your factory carb with a rebuild and some performance tuning.

I've gotten my Holley to 20mpg. Seen Carters hit about 28...and Q jets break 30.

A Q jet is your best bet for gas mileage. Rebuild yours and learn how it works.
