Buick 455 Q-jet

Is this a good carb? I won it off e-bay, and he said it came off a '71 Buick 455 and it's a Q-Jet. I plan on using it with my 383 stroker. This will be my daily driver, with loads of torque mind you, so can it be tuned to produce good gas mileage?

Certain of those were the ones with the larger primaries, that may be one of them. Those are supposed to flow 850 CFM instead of 750 or whatever. Don't think that will make a whole lot of difference on a small motor like a 383 though, except it might not get quite as good gas mileage as one of the smaller ones.

Other than that, it's about like any other Q-jet... except being a Buick, watch out for the way the fuel line comes out of it, it's not the same as a Chevy, and may do something unfriendly like hit the water outlet. You may also find it very difficult to hook up the choke.

I don't believe a 71 is an 800cfm. I think those started later. It will have a straight fuel inlet; only Chevy and Cadillac used side fuel.

Thanks, so could it be made to get good gas mileage, and easily tuneable to make loads of torque?
