Okay i have an edelbrock 600cfm carb with electric choke and well today i decided to tune it down a bit becuz i had it turned up a bit rich for the colder weather and well after turnin it down (lean), when id give it a good rev it would still give a lite black smoke and then my brother told me to go take it out for a spin becuz its been sittin there idlein and water was collectin.

so i go and drive thru town and only at one stop light it gave me a rich cloud of smoke and then when i got onto rt.22 i really got on the car and it gave me the same cloud but alittle longer becuz i was at WOT. and i got up to about 85-90ish (dunno speedo was tached out) and then i took the u turn to go on the other side to do the same (no cars around at both times surpisingly) and when i got to the other side i got on it again and it didnt do the cloud or if it did it was very lite u couldnt tell. and then i went back thru town and took off at a few lights and didnt do it no more.

was the smoke just tons of soot and whatnot left in the pipes from runnin rich for the winter time? becuz it ran really rich some times on somedays but not alot but i was runnin rich this winter.

and i did give the carb a little cleanin with carb cleaner before i took it out.

 

Sounds like left over carbon built up from running rich previously.
