tps ?
tps ?
I rebuilt my quadrajet awhile back and the only problem i was having was adjusting the tps. I could not adjust it with turnig the adjusting screw. so I fiddled with the pump arm some, to when the choke is off it is .58v. yesterday i cranked it up to let it run for a while , and it was running real rich i looked under the car and the convertor was glowing. I checked the tps ,and it was at .99v. When I took the choke off, it went back to .58v.
How can I adjust the tps so that it will be in range with choke on and off?
Should i position the choke half way and adjust the tps around .63v. this is really screwing with me.
I know I probably should have had it done professionally, but I bought it wrecked in the front for $500 and I drove it home,I wanted something to learn to work on myself ( I think it is therapuetic <when I dont F it up)
Any input will be greatly appreciated
Thanks:

You adjust the TPS for choke-off idle.
Don't worry about what it is with the choke on. The choke opens up the throttle blades slightly, so the TPS voltage should go up.
Besides, the ECM is in open loop until the engine warms up a little, anyway. If the converter was glowing, your choke probably wasn't coming open enough and/or soon enough.

Thanks for the reply five7kid.
It seems like when I first start it up its a little rich, but it seems to even out after a couple of minutes.
I was also wondering if I should get my convertor replaced. it seems that the exhaust is hotter now coming out the muffler, and where the convertor is , after running awhile it looks as if the ground is smoking a little.
I am pretty sure the carb is tuned right . I got the tps at.58 ,I adjusted the dwell to be around 28-32* , What else should I do ?
I just put an accel super coil on it , and new plugs and wires , I dont think that would have anything to do with the exhaust running hotter.
If anybody could help me with this I would be thankful
