CFI to carb swap - EGR or not?
I wanted to save my engine changes for later in my rebuild process, but the fuel injection/computer is driving (or I should say NOT driving...) me nuts. I've decided to take several folks' advice and change to a carb. I've read the articles by Jester on swapping from EFI to carb and choosing the proper carb. I've done multiple searches for info on this site and read all I could.
What I want right now is simplicity and reliability, along with saving as much $$$ as possible since I plan on a 350 c.i. swap later. Hi-speed performance is not a factor right now. Looks like an Edlebrock Performer manifold and Edlebrock carb will meet my needs according to Jester's articles. Jegs has the Performer manifold in EGR and non-EGR versions, the non-EGR being $30 cheaper. What I need to know now (and haven't found in any search I've tried) is whether or not the non-EGR manifold is better than the EGR manifold or vice-versa. There are no emissions testing here in Oklahoma.
Thanks,
Rob

I suggest going with the cheaper manifold and plugging off the exhaust crossover passages in the manifold. The cooler you can keep the manifold, the more power potential it has.
There is no performance advantage to having EGR.
