off idle hessatation
hello....im new to this site and i think its great ....i have a 87 camaro with a 305 4 barrel....i bought it as a project car and it runs great but i seem to have a bad flat spot right off idle....i was wondering if it was a common prob or if maybe someone knew whats up with it before i go out in the hot sun to mess with it....the car has about 80,000 miles on it and has no other problems exept for the off idle hessetation...so if anyone has an idea i would be gratful for any help....thanks...

Anything having to do with the secondary side of the igniton
system can cause a lack of throttle response.
This is the first place to look. ( plugs, wires, cap, rotor)
The accelerator pump ( carb) injects a shot of fuel when you move the throttle. Check to see that fuel immediatly flows from the accelerator discharge ports in the carb with the slightest movement of the throttle. If it does not then the pump diaphram may be weak, a check valve (internal) may be sticking, the carb linkage may need adjusting. There could also be a slight vacuum leak causing a lean idle condition. Check all the vacuum hoses to the carb and manifold for leaks.
Again be sure the ignition system is up to snuff before blaming the carb.

Don't forget timing in the ignition check list.
Advancing a little more than the factory setting, especially if you live at an altitude higher than sea level, will also help eliminate that annoying flat spot.
On the other hand, the factory ignition module and coil are notorious for being weak and going bad.

thanks for the replys....im gunna do a little tune up anyways, plugs wires cap coil....just thought maybe there was something that might commonly go bad that i should check first before i go out in the folrida sun and work on her, thanks again...
