New carb...huge flame shoots out =O
New carb...huge flame shoots out =O
So yesterday I finally got my Holley 600 CFM VS carb installed by a garage that got it running. Today I have the hood open and have the car running and I give it gas and then all of a sudden, a huge flame shoots out almost burning my face.
So uhh, what the hell is the deal with this? Thanks.

Well after reading some off your site, it looks like you changed much more than just the carburetor, so it could be a number of things you'll just have to start checking out.

Check the timing first. In the "old days", we used to say, "75% of carb problems are fixed with a set of plugs & points." Well, we don't use points anymore, but the concept is still the same - Get the ignition up to snuff before messing with the carb.
If the ignition is properly set up and adjusted, then you're looking at a lean condition. Most likely the accelerator pump, but could also be power valve or jetting.

4160's have jets on the primary, but a metering plate on the secondaries. You have a Vacuum secondaries, so you don't have a secondary accelerator pump. You do have a primary pump though.
That 4160 probably has power valve blow out protection, but it should have a primary power valve.
Did you by any chance gun it when the engine was cold, and the choke open?
That would explain the lean back fire.
Hell - mine dosn't have a choke, and if a stomp on it cold it will shoot up.
The Edelbrock (no cloke) I had on previous, did not do this 'AS BAD'. Not sure why the eddies don't flame up like the holley's when cold?

Do you think that would do any damage to anything?

No no no no, I have a moose for a hood. The antlers work really well as a brush guard.
