Recommend me a plug..

..as AC Delco has discontinued the ones I usually run.I have 195 AFR's on the motor..10:1 355,Comp XE274 cam,Weiand Stealth with Speed Demon 750dp.I used to run either a FR3LS or FR5LS (recommended from AFR) depending on temperature but these numbers are now NOT AVAILABLE at any parts store I go to.I have cross referenced and all I get is a platinum plug which I cannot run due to the fact that I occasionally run juice on the motor. So can anyone help me out here...car is driven/raced NA 80% of the time with the occasional juice run. What plug would you recommend?AFR also recommends Champion RC9YC?I have never ran Champion and have no idea how they perform??I did run one set of Autolite 3933 racing plugs on the car, recommended to me by John Phillips (an NX dealer) but they were way too cold for street driving and i do not spray enought to warrant running these plugs at all times. Please help..many thanks in advance.

I don't like bad-mouthing companies on hearsay, but I'll relate my recent experience.

I had Champions in the 396 for the last couple of months of the season last year. I cleaned them up as I was doing the porting work this spring, and put them back in. When I first started it, it just wasn't running right. Pulled the plugs, and 5 of the eight were heavily carboned, with one of the 5 actually wet (the other 3 looked good). I put the AC's back in that I had taken out in 2001 (put in Autolites at that time, which the Champions replaced), and it runs fine.

I thought the Champions were doing okay last year. Now, I wonder ...

Update: I picked up another set of AC's last night to put in before the first race tomorrow night.

Another observation: The most often repeated reason for using Champions that I've heard is contingency money.

To change the subject: How do you like your combo? It sounds quite healthy. I think I'd be happy with it without spray. Which Speed Demon do you have, VS or DP? My plans for the future for the 396 include a Comp cam (solid lifter - mostly strip use these days anyway), Stealth, higher stall converter, and DP Speed Demon.

I decided to try a set of Autolite 3924's out.I ran Autolites in my old motors religously and never had a problem so I'll give them a shot..the 3933 race plugs are just too cold for NA street use.Champions I am still hesitant about..heard more bad than good.As far as my combo..I love it.Only thing I would change if I were to redo the motor is to go a little bigger in cam to take advantage of the great flow of the AFR's in the higher lift range(.500-.600).I am very happy NA without spray but as we all know..if a little is good..alot is betterI cannot say enough about the Demon carb.I run the double pumper because of the fact I have the 4 speed.Your plans sound good for the 396.I beleive you will be happy with a Demon.Took me awhile to tune it but I realized I didn't know half of what I thought I did about carbs.Learned alot and now know the Demon inside and out.On another note I have been chasing a miss at around 3,500 rpms for a few months and it turns out it was the HEI,and I swapped every ignition part except for that.It would miss right around that RPM and any lower or higher it ran like a champ.Swapped in a MSD pro billet and miss is totally gone. The HEI is a Summit hi po with maybe 5,000 miles on it..used along with a 6AL.Just goes to show..don't rule anything out..even if it is new.
