starvation idea
I have a problem that I'm sure is fuel starvation, could also be vapor lock because it gets worse the hotter the outside air temp. Anyway, I'm thinking about getting a Holly red or blue electric pump and putting it in where the rubber lines are just in front of the tank. I was wondering if I can keep my mech fuel pump on so I can keep the return lines, or if it would be better to just trash it. And also if I could mount the new elec. fuel pump where the mech. one is now( side of the block) The holly red pump is 7PSI max @94gph and the blue is 14psi @110 gph and it comes with a regulator. Any ideas or suggestions?
Niether of those pumps need a return line, ditch the mechanical pump. The rubber lines just in front of the tank are a fine place to plumb in the holley pump. don't put it up front by the motor.

So let me guess what it's actually doing...
You drive the car, as long as you keep driving, it's more or less OK; but if it's hot out, and you park the car and go into the store or whatever for about 5 minutes, come back out, get in the car, crank it up and take off, it will run fine for about 15 seconds (enough to get you out into the middle of traffic) and then die and be extremely hard to restart.
I've never heard of that before.
Put an extra gasket between the fuel pump block-off plate and the block, and between the pump and the block-off plate. Above all, even though you don't need the gasket to seal the fuel pump(a smear of silicone is fine for keeping it from leaking), don't put the fuel pump on without a gasket.
The problem isn't fuel starvation, it's that the fuel in the pump gets hot; and then when it makes it to the carb and passes the needle valve, it's no longer under pressure, and it all immediately boils and spews everywhere.

When this happens its usually when the engine is under load on warm days, It doesn't have to be parked either. At high rpms it starts to stall and will buck(i think it bucks to the same rhythm as the fuel pump squirts fuel) and I have to let off the gas to keep it from pooping out. I had a similar problem a few years ago but I think that turned out to be my ign module in the dist. I had to put a lot of the white grease under it and I didn't have the problem anymore(that problem was more like the parking it and getting back in and it dying in 15 sec like you said) After I've had this problem I felt all the fuel lines and components for excess heat, because I also suspect vapor lock and the fuel pump was not as hot as some of the other things like the line from the pump to the carb just after it comes out from behind the water pump. I just replaced the pump and used a gasget and sealer and the little plate is still there, but if you have any other ideas please let me know, I willing to try anything to fix this, I know my engine is strong, but when I race someone and it starts to stall it makes my car look like crap.
