Performance from stock carb?
Performance from stock carb?
Ok, I've come to the realization a new carb isn't in the future. So, with that said, is there anyway to get better performance from my stock quadrajunk? I've read through the tuning section and have adjusted the AV as much as I could. A little better acceleration, but not much. Anyone any other ideas? New plugs and wires, so tune up not an issue, timing needs bumped up a little though.

i have always thought the quadrajets were quadrajunk but there are some people out there that swear by them. i have heard that they are a great performance carb with some mods done to them. i dont know but i think it flows somewhat decent cfm stock.

Did you modify the airvalve so it opens all the way? The quadrajet can actually be tuned to pretty reasonable performance, assuming the rest of the engine can do it. But if your engine is stock, there's not a whole lot of point as the engine won't even use all the air that the carburetor is capable of flowing. I'd tweak the timing and open up the intake tract before the carburetor first, headers and exhaust next, then start working on the carb.

I'm putting about 250 HP to the rear wheels out of a 305. The only change to the stock quadrajet is the secondary tuning, with DR rods on a B hanger. In fact, I did those things before the other mods, and certainly initial secondary opening response improved considerably.
I wouldn't say I "swear" by the carb, but I will say it isn't given its due. If you are looking for a good street performance carb, it can't be beat. If you have strict emissions testing/inspection, you don't have any other choice.
But, as is hinted at above, there are many more things holding back a stock LG4 before you get to the carb. Fix/modify those areas first.
