help backfiring through carb
Hope you guys can help. i recently put on a holley 670 s/a from a buddy of mine and everything was working good. stupid me
decided to adjust the float level cause i found it to be a tade high
after sparying gas all over the engine and flooding the hell out of the carb and changing the oil cause there was like a quart or more of gas in it i start it up and it starts right up but if i hit the gas it will bog down and backfire through the carb.
the fuel pressure is just about at 5 1/2 psi and the float levels are good. i noticed it seems to be running rich and i can't get it to stop running rich and im pretty sure i need valve seals i dunno if that has anything thing to do with it.
i already took the plugs out and cleaned them up cause they were a bit black
there is not much done to the car other then whats in my sig i did bump the timing up to 12 but it's been that way for a while.
any idea's before i totally give up?
thanks

You need a vacuum/mechanical advance distributor with that type of carb. The stock carb/distributor use the ECM to provide the ignition advance. Without the input from the stock carb, the stock distributor will not get the advance commands from the ECM, therefore you will not get proper ignition performance to be able to get the carb to work right.

Sorry Bro i should have made it a little more percise. it is a vacuum advanced dist. no ecm
like i mentioned everything was running great till i flooded the engine.
i took the front and rear fuel bowls off to make sure everything was good.
i thought my needle and seat were bad so i had two laying around. i dunno if they are the wrong size they came off a 600 cfm would that cause a problem? the float levels are good.
might still have a bit of gas in the oil but i don't think that's the prob.
im hearing it might be the power valve but i though it has the blowout protection. or it could be a vacuum leak. or bad valves and a bunch of other things lol
i also heard going to a colder plug might be a posibility. im lost on this one

i dunno what the hell i did but it's working fine now. i just played with the fuel bowls and got the fuel level just about right and so far so good
i still need to play with it though.
