Looking to tune my Edelbrock carb , need opinions
ok I have a L69 , nothing crazy , pretty much stock with edelbrock manifold , headers etc...
anyways
I have a new 02 sensor and a digital A/F gauge , basically when I add a bit of gas the gauge is fine , when I floor it or go over half the throttle it's also fine (not lean or rich), but when I add just some gas it goes off the chart to lean condition.
I pulled one plug and it's as white as it can be , I'll pull more tomorrow and do a compression test just for the heck of it
I have a tune up kit for the carb that I bought from summit (jets/rods/springs I think).
any ideas ?
I'm just not sure what to change , or what to play with , timing is fine (set to stock specs), all the ignition stuff is new , engine burns a lil oil on startup otherwise it's fine , rusn nice too
also , maybe this will be related but when doign a panic stop the engine stalls , either the fuel level is too low in the carb or the rpms drop too much so it steals , how can I raise the fuel level in the edelbrock performer carb ?
(I believe the carb is 750cfm , I know it's a bit too big for just a 305 , but it will sit on top a 350 again soon so I will keep it on there for now).

it's more likely that the fuel level is too high.
The fuel level in the bowl while running is relative to the fuel pressure and the adjustment of the floats.
there are two specs, one for float drop and and for float height. the recommended specs are the place to start.
edelbrocks like lots of fuel flow capacity ( volume) but modest fuel pressure. About 6 psi. more will raise the fuel level and less will lower it for the same float setting. execesive pressure will increase flooding problems.
The plugs may need some time to color. should be light tan porcelins with some black carbon on the top of threaded part.
the accelerator pump linkage may need adjustment.
the jetting should be real close out of the box. You want to stay a little on the rich side. Safer. tune the idle for best manifold vacuum, tune the cruise to crowd .400 to.700Mv 15:1/13.0 afr
tune the WOT for around .850Mv 12.5:1 or richer.
If the motor is misfireing the AFR guage will show lean or no display because there is unburned oxygen in the exhaust when it missfires. Don't confuse this with a lean mixture.
Any exhaust leaks ahead of the O2 sensor will create false readings.
