Mixture control solenoid

Just pulled codes on this old 1983 Impala I am working on, and got code 23 IIRC, which my book says means the MCS is open or shorted.
Cannot find any parts stores around here that stock or even list the MCS as a replacement part.
Anyone got any ideas on what to do next? Local salvage yards don't have any CCC Quadrajets either, and I am not wanting to buy a rebuilt one.

Before you spend money on a part you probably don't need, check the wiring. Plug the plug back in, or find where the wires are chafed, or whatever.

I have never in all my days seen a MCS go bad. That's not to say it can't happen, just that it's so unlikely as to be almost unimaginable. Almost any other possible cause for the computer to be unhappy with it would be more likely.
