demon carb whistles...

i put my 650 road demon on today and once i filled the fuel bowls and looked everything over, i started it up and got this horribly loud whistling/whining noise. i thought i lost the power steering pump or something, but it was alot louder than that. I rev'd the car up past 3500 and the noise went away and once it dropped back down, it started doing it again.

is there something obvious i'm doing wrong? the only thing i can think of is the transfer slot isn't exactly where the manual says it should be. i don't have any vaccuum accessories hooked up right now, no pcv, no tranny line (th350), and no advance, all the vaccuum ports are capped they way they came out of the box and they all seemed like they were on there pretty tight...so i don't think it's a vaccuum leak...

Probably the air bleeds. I.E., normal.

It's just whistling while it works. Might as well join in, assuming you know the tune. Should be quieter with the air cleaner on.

i dunno man, i'd like to believe it's normal, but i'd do damn near anything to make it stop.

it is a bit quieter with the air cleaner on...but still pretty loud...i'll see if i can get a recording of it...

could i talk you into being more specific? i've got 4 idle screws, plus the throttle position screw, and idle air bleeds

i've tried adjusting the idle screws in and out about one turn, in 1/8th of a turn intervals, no real luck, it'll sound a little better, idle will go up, and then it'll fall flat on it's face and stall...

If you richen (turn clockwise) the sound goes away. Right when the whistling stops or right before it goes away completely is usually the higest point of vacuum and thats where you want to be.

k, that makes sense

what do i do if the whistling goes away but the car is way rich and how do i get the idle down? right now the throttle screw is all the way out and it's still idling over 1500...do i need to adjust the throttle blades to expose less of the transfer slot?

i apologize for being retarded, no one around here runs a demon...not many know anything about carbs at all actually...i'm kinda on my own except for you guys

Thats strange. Yes adjust the throttle blades so you have a resonable idle then adjust the mixture screws. If you have a vacuum guage use it or buy one. A vacuum guage really helps alot until you aquire a tunning ear. Adjust to higrdt vacuum and your set.

That indicates a vacuum leak.
