Manual Choke

Ok, I installed a manual choke and I now have full control over it. This doesn't help, however, unless I figure out how to make it work. I'm interested in setting the fast idle so I can get my butt inside when the winter comes. I tried the directions they gave me (pump the gas once, close the choke, start the car, immediately open the choke about 1/4 way; this should set the fast idle) and they didn't work. First off, the car won't start on only one pump unless it's very warm out. Second, if the choke is closed or 1/4 open, the car stalls. It doesn't set a high idle. Does this have to do with the high idle cam? I did remove a red plasic piece when I replaced the electric choke. Does that have anything to do with it? Oh, and by the way, I have a Holley. Can anyone help me? I really don't wanna be sitting out in 20 degree weather because I have to physically step on the gas pedal to warm up my car.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

The directions are right, are you sure you set the fast idle screw properly? Newer holleys have that plastic cam that likes to round over especially since they set it too tight at the factory.
