car runs bad in cold weather... choke?
This morning when i started my car i was runnning really rough. from my house to my school it was spittting and sputtering. I live in northern jersey and today was also the first day ive seen frost on my window, so it was the coldest its been so far. by the time i got to school the wasnt fully warmed up (i live pretty close). Is this because i didnt have my choke on? im new to carbs, thanks. its a 350 crate engine with a 650 holly dp with manual choke (no choke cable yet) thanks

Welcome to carbs and cold days..lol.I have been doing this for over seven years with my Z now.Get the choke hooked up..you will be amazed at how much better the car will run on mornings like today.Also why mine gets parked in the winter.Nothing worse then freezing for 10 minutes till the car will hold an idle huh?lol

so with the choke hooked up, im still gonna have a problem idleing when its cold? do i have to jet my carb richer for colder weather because cold air is more dense? thanks

No, you shouldn't have to change a thing with the carb, just your driving habits. You want the choke on when you start it. You'll want to give the car a couple of minutes to warm up, the colder it is the longer you should sit. When you feel it's warmed up enough, push the choke off. It takes some getting used to, sometimes you might need 1/2 choke while driving till it warms up.

well...afetr a few weeks of having a manual choke, i can only say it helps a little. this morning (25 degreesF) i had to sit for 5 minutes before she would idle. it took a while to warm up. would an electric choke be better? higer temp thermostat? thanks
