fuel problem??
fuel problem??
so i go and help adjust my friends carb with the idle misture screws and get them perfect but as soon as i put her in gear the rpms drop so low and stall after a couple seconds. is there something else that needs be adjusted?? i helped him adjust it because in park the rpms are about 1300 but in gear they are fine. now i no why his mechanic had it like this because if u dont put the rpms up in park she will stall in gear. is there something else i need to adjust? or could it be because the fuel pump or something?? oh ya and i tryed playing with the idle screw it does the same thing.

In the same boat...
thats funny! I think the same thing happens with mine or might happen. The guy I bought my 87 T.A. from, had the park RPM at between 1500-1700. however, when I first put the car into reverse, it dropped to about 1100, then when i went into gear it stood pretty still at about 1200.
My only guess is that he had it set at such a high RPM for the winter time and cold temps. But then again that sounds like such a high setting for just winter....who knows!!!?!!!!
Maybe we can all come up with something.!?!?

Actually, I just read about this on another board, but to save my life I won't be able to find the information.
The reason your cars are doing this is because of a sensor in the engine compartment that is used by the computer to help control the timing, and the idle via the TPS.
I totally forget which sensor it is.... damn. Anyway, it's sole purpose is to manage this function that we're talking about. It's not one of the major ones, like TPS, MAP, or IAC. It's one of the more obscure ones.
