Lowering Underhood temp
How do u make it so that your aircleaner doesn't suck hot air in. Other then snorkels is there an airbox for the RAII hood or a cowl induction thing?
Hey Stupid,
(feels weird calling you that.. heh). The best way really, as far as I can tell is to separate the air going into the engine from the air that's in the engine compartment.
Honestly, your best bet is probably to get yourself an air cleaner from an older car that maybe has a larger snorkle on it.
By the way, from my last post about the Cowl-setup, you actually already have the most important part of the Cowl-Induction setup. The air cleaner can't be that difficult to reproduce. I can take pictures of it. If you can get yourself a normal air cleaner assembly, you can probably just cut a large hole in the top. All that the Cowl-Induction air cleaner looks like is a standard air cleaner, with a 5" hole in the top (off-center). It then has a rubber gasket that goes around the opening of the hole to help seal with the cowl piece at the top.
I plan on building up another 82 TransAm in the near future. I'd like it to look completely stock, more or less, but instead have a 350, along with a few other items.. an Edelbrock rebuild quadrajet, better intake manifold, and Edelbrock TES along with new cyl heads.
In any case, what I'd like to have is the DUAL snorkle air cleaner, with the cowl-induction lid and assembly.
Should be pretty sweet. I'll have an 81 and an 82 TransAm! hehe.

87 form.? Do you have the offset hood power bulge? I took the cover off the bulge (5 small screws) It has the same effect as removing the rubber gasket across the back of the hood (old trick). Not the coldest air, but helps some and is cheap trick! Anything that helps remove hot air from under the hood.
Got the same hood and removed that a while ago. But after the engine has been driven for a while u deffinately get a bog from the hot air being sucked through the air cleaner.
