when converting an L98 to carb,do you...
first let me say that i have tried to do my research on this.i have read many posts,on several boards, and im still un-sure
.i am installing an L98 in place of an old L69(4bbl ccc 305),and i dont know if i need to change the distributor gear on the 305's distributor to work w/the roller cam.i have been told that you only need to swap gears if your running an aftermarket billett rc,and i have been told that you must swap gears with any rc.HELP!

If your converting a tpi l98 to carb then you need a whole new distributor to work with a carb intake. the l98 had a computer controlled distributor. Either way you do need a different gear to work with the roller, the gears are of different mettallic compound.

And then all you need is the electric fuel pump setup for 6-7PSI because you can't run a mechanical pump because there is no lobe on the cam.
I've turned 2, Fuel Injected small blocks into carbed motors. That's the only difference depending on what other vehicle's carb setup started as.
If you are going to use the dizzy that came with the carbed engine, you're fine. You only run into trouble using a stock dizzy on an aftermarket roller cam.
