Choke won't open

My choke won't open, why could this be? It also idles high, at 2000 RPM, are these related? The choke light is on, so I'm going to check the alternator, but I'm wondering about the other stuff.
Thanks

They are related, and it could be as simple as the blue choke power wire has come off the side of the carb. If you have a voltmeter, check for 12V on the wire when the key is in the 'ON' position.

The choke circuitry is totally different on 86-87(and some 85’s?) LG4/L69’s.
You are correct about the CHOKE light being triggered by a bad, or slow spinning Alt on 82-85 cars. if the wire to the carb is unplugged the CHOKE light will NOT come on.

Frank, your 87 has a choke relay. If it is not energizing, the CHOKE light lights-up. Could be a bad relay or choke fuse.

The choke fuse should be the on the top row of the right hand side of the fuse block. The Choke relay is mounted on the "Convenience Center". Should be next to the Horn relay above the turn signal flasher.
