I want to know how to remove the electric choke off my 750 VS holley. It is not needed since the car is only driven during the summer months. I may possibly remove the choke tower as well. I am unhappy with the fact that I can't shut the car off and then restart it without waiting 2 minutes before driving it. Thanks for the help. I also have moved the choke towards the "lean" side and this really hasn't helped any.

 

is there a way to possibly just "lock out" the electric choke so that it stays wide open so that in the future I could use it again?

 

I just took the "electric" part off. It is held on by 3 screws. Then I used a piece of wire to hold it opened at all times. Works good.

 

sounds like a plan....that is what i was thinking of doing initially, but wasn't sure if it would leave open any holes for a vacuum leak....apparently if you swap from electric choke to manual you have to plug some holes with a sticker? That's what the conversion kit instructions stated, that manual choke carbs came with that hole blocked off with a sticker. sounds strange, I downloaded the conversion kit details off the net.....that might be my problem right there

 

never heard of using a sticker when taking off a electric choke thats weird ??????

 

i guess theres a hole where the electric choke gets air from the carburetor. it has a cork gasket on the electric choke piece

 

All you have to do is remove the choke assembly from the side of the carb along with the linkage. Then you can also take the flapper off by sliding it out of the shaft, then pull the rod out. That way you don't run the risk of the door closing while you are driving and you won't have to tie it open. If you are never going to use the choke you can go as far as milling off the whole choke horn.

If you have the electric choke and there is the tube running from the back passenger side venturi to the choke, the carb will still function as usual. You can plug it up with something if you are worried about it though.

 

thanks for the help, i'll remove that thing then and free up some airflow....how do you remove the flapper, i tried pulling up on it with some needle nose pliers and it didn't budge. Any suggestions?

 

If you are removing the choke plate solely for airflow, don't bother. There is nothing to be gained there.

 

mainly due to having to shut the car off and then wait a while to drive off for the engine to kick down to idle speed due to the motor still being warm but the choke still being engaged.

 

There is nothing to plug or anything. No need to worry about vacuum leaks.

 

You have to use a small flat head and kind of pry on either side of the flap so the raised spots will slide through. It is kinda tight.

 

If you really wanna try it, why not just try locking it open first? You can adjust it enough to just lock it open, then if you don't like it, its easy to set back as it was.
