Which carb is better?

Quadrajet or Carter AFB?

It would be used on a SBC 355 with a manual trans, Weiand Action + intake, Dart heads 2.02/1.6 200cc runner 72cc chamber, CompXE 268, full length headers and duels, posi & 3.73:1 gears.

I have both of these carbs and was wonder which is better? Pros and cons of each?

Car: 82 Berlinetta/57 Bel Air
Engine: L92/LQ4 (both w/4" stroke)
Transmission: 4L80E/4L80E
Axle/Gears: 12B-3.73/9"-3.89
Q-jet: Good driveability & economy.

AFB: Easy to tune mixture ratio via rod changes.

Disadvantages to both with a manual tranny: Air-flow driven secondaries.

Get a Holley or Demon mechanical secondary carb.

I'm with 5-7... as far as performance goes with a manual trans, you want mechanical secondaries. Vacuum secondaries (IIRC) will close when you let off to change gears, and take time to reopen. Mechanical secondaries open as soon as your foot hits the wood.

Mechanical secondaries can be worse for gas mileage though... much easier to accidentally dip into them up than with vacuum secondaries.

I was thinking that a mechannical secondary carb would be best. I am looking to keep cost down so I will probably keep an eye on ebay or maybe someonehere has one for sale. For my setup what would you all recommend? 650/750 single or double pumper model #?

A 350 could work with a 750 pretty well. Remember, the stock Qjets were 780cfm

I know the vaccum secondarys only open up the secondaries for what the engine needs this way they were able to use them from a 305 to a 455 for example. I think the manual secondaries are less forgiving this way. I just ran my specs through one of those calculators and 355ci @ 6Krpm @ 90% VE puts me at 616CFM. So it looks like the 650 would suffice. But if I ever go to a 383 or do a blow through turbo maybe the 750cfm would be better.
