could it be water?
this does not pertain to 3rd Gen cars but my 78 olds had water get into the carb. the car sat for a year outside and it had to get a lot of water into it over time. there is a trim piece that has a screw that is right above the wing nut on the air housing. the water gets into the carb this way. when i start the car some white smoke comes from the exhaust system. i was told it was water that got into the engine. Will water remover work on getting this out, or should I just buy a new carb?

buying a new carb? Thats the least of your issues. Ever hear of hydro-lock? When water gets into the combustion chamber? Do not start the engine until you get the water out. Unlike air, water cannot be compressed. So if bend rods and whatnot is what you like, then sure you can start the engine. But most people dont care for bent rods.

Man, it is so hard to get questions answered around here. I even underlined them and still no help. Apparentley a new carb is out of the question, so will the water remover that you can add to your gas work? I changed the oil and checked the plugs. I also found that there could be a gas leak in one of the seals inside the carb. The gas could be metering wrong considering the leak, cuz the engine revs high and low and it has idle probs.

That water remover you describe is primarily to clear the fuel lines from the tank to the engine. If water got in your carb, its like 15 of so feet ahead of the water. Meaning the water travels mere inches and its to the chamber. The remover has to travel 15 or so feet THEN through the intake. By then, you will have gone through a compression stroke on at least 1 cylinder. It only takes 1 stroke to screw a rod up. Now refer to my above post.
