JET carburetors

I've got a fuel leaking problem on my 84 t/a with a stock q-jet. The leak is coming out of the fuel inlet into the carburetor. A while ago, my dad rethreaded it, but we still have to tighten it everyonce in a while, cause it keeps getting loose and leaking. after i put the 350 in, (hopefully next fall) i don't want to deal with the fuel leak. Are JET q-jets a good choice?

If yours is an american G-jet, yours is computer controlled. I think the JET carbs are non-CC.

They'll rebuild pretty much anything.

Yeah, mine is CC'd. If they rebuild it, how could they fix the leak problem if we already rethreaded it? Any other options, or am i gonna have to keep retightening it when it leaks?

According to one of the magazine articles on this site JET will do CC Q-jets. However I'd discourage going with them. I just got a stage 2 non CC Q-jet from them like 6 months ago. Man they screwed that thing up pretty good. It has taken me a while to undo some of the crap they did (hows about a metering rod with a broken tip and a cracked accelerator pump seal for starters!) . But since some of the tuning on a Q-jet is done with drill bits it makes me wonder. Jet's Q-Jet guru Sean Murphy left the company a while back and has his own carb place now. That would be a better option or to try The Carb Shop in Ontario Calif. if you are serious about a professional rebuild. Oh and jacked inlet threads are common on Q-Jets, so I think the pros know how to fix them.

Plumbers tape and gas dont mix very well. Try Teflon thread sealer instead.

either one will work fine. Used em both and never had problems. As long as the tape says for use on metal and not plastic, cause yes, there is a difference.

The thin white pipe thread tape(teflon tape) gets eatten away by fuel. When i got my mallory fpr i ignorred the warning that said "do not use teflon tape as a thread sealer" Two months later my fpr was leaking like mad, all the teflon tape was gone.

Now i use permatex thread sealant with teflon. It doesnt get eatten by gas like the tape does.

Never had it happen to any of mine. Always used it at the fuel pump, on heater hose fittings, even tranny fittings at the radiator. Pretty much anything.

I just went to Lowe's and picket up a roll of thread tape that says it was rated for gasoline. Haven't had any problems to date.

I am VERY happy with my stage 2 Streetmaster Q-jet. I gave them all my specs over the phone, and it performed out of the box- I have never touched the idle mixture screws, and my A/F ratio was right on at the chassis dyno.

Is it computer controlled?

Mine is not, however, about four years ago in HOT ROD they did a project where a Firebird owner built a 385 stroker and it had to pass AZ emissions, they used the CC Q-jet on an Edelbrock Performer manifold and had JET go through the carb, they were very happy with it.

Four years ago Sean Murphy was working for them, not any more.
