qjet hesitation

OK, it isn't bogging anymore.

Had to disconnect the choke pull-off and adjust the AV to get it this far. With the choke pull-off vacuum connected, it would bog no matter how I adjusted the AV. Without it, it took no time to make the bog go away.

Time for a new pull-off?

Now, when I hit the gas, from a dead stop, or while cruising (1250RPM or less), there's a hesitation, no loss of power (which is what it was doing before), for a second, and then it'll slowly start accelerating. Then around 2500RPM it goes like gang busters.

Just put new lifters, an Edelbrock EGR, and a 14x#" K&N open Aircleaner

87 Firebird, Formula, AT, 305 LG4.

The manifold and air clearner are the only mods.

The choke isn't hooked up, the tab the rod connects to on the choke plate is bent so the choke can't move. New fuel filter. New fuel pump.

The choke pull-off is necessary to avoid bog. You can get one that releases sooner, but off the top of my head I forget the application you're looking for. I've also heard of drilling out the vacuum nipple to increase the release rate, but some of them have the orifice up inside the can, not at the end of the nipple.

A functioning choke is a big plus for overall operation.

I know that, just fixing one problem at a time. Finally working through the carb bugs. Have a parts carb, so I'll try pulling some parts off of it and getting the choke setup, and see if the pull-off on it works.

Also thinking the float may not be set right, so I'll be checking that when I get home tonight.

The carb really needs a complete rebuild, the throttle shafts are leaking.

my q jet is doign the same damn thing, about a week ago i had it tuned Right up! my primarys woudl go liek hell!! then i changed my timing and it changed everything so i played iwht the carb and now im trying to get it to go
if its cold it will go liek hell, but when it warms up, i stumble until 2000rpm then it goes like ****!

u shoudl buy a set of jets for it
that will make the difference between bogging and goign liek hell! i rebuild my q jet lately like once or twice a week jsut puttling the top off and gettign it tuned up
it seems tpo run different wiht every little thing different i do to it! spark plugs, gaps, advace springs, so im alwyas playing iwht it

but defiantly buy a jet 2 sizes up form yours and a jet 2 sizes down and that will tell u the way u have to go

or disconnect the accelerator pump and put the car and gear and rev it , if its better, u know u got too much, if it gets worse, u need mroe fuel!
