switch to carb

arite i don't know if this is a carb question or a tranny questoin but to me i think its more carb than anything. Recently (back in july) i had a built 355 put into my 1990 chevy camaro rs to swap out my 305. Now at the time i had enough for the engine and that was all. I stuck with my 305 fuel injection set up with includes 305 computer with a jet stage 2 chip for the 305, the 305 intake manifold which bolts up to my 355 with no problem, and of course my fuel injector set up. This was all great but i deffinitely think i'm missing out on a lot of ponies here ( not to be confused with a mustang). I spent some time researching different EFI's and decided not to go with them because you can only do so much and then you have to change everything once you get around to the 500-550 hp range. I also talked to a lotta people at shows and decided to go carb. Now for the questoin after the life story. If i switch to carb, i would be removing the entire wiring harness and computer and i have a TH-700R4 tranny which i'm pretty sure is controlled by that computer. What do i do now?

500-550 hp (at least, naturally aspirated) and "streetable" (FWIF), do not belong in the same sentence, just a heads up. Perform a search and you will see the kinds of parts needed to run those numbers.

Also, don't rule out aftermarket EFI setups. They are usually standalone so you can tune them easier. I know both Holley's and Edelbrocks MPFI both come with software/equipment to tune as you need. EFI is a broad subject. Factory EFI narrows it down.

You can get kits that control the lock up if you remove the ECM.

Ultimatly, for the most part, it boils down to what are you willing to sacrifice and what are you wanting to gain.

The only thing on the 700r4 that computer controlls is the Torque converter lockup, there are bunch of different kits that you can by for less $150 that will fix this. So go carb and dont ever look back.Good Luck.
