Loading up SEVERLY

Ive been having this very severe loading up problem..whenever id open the secondaries and then let off the motor would flood out...id come to a stop and it would die and BARELY restart after holding the gas to the floor for 10 seconds or so....during cruise in 4th gear (2K) it would run perfect and smooth then all the sudden start loading up...

Today my buddy and i who knows a lot about carbs tuned it...the secondary float was sticking apparently so he tapped the nut and got the floats adjusted correctly..set the mixture and reset the timing...i set the fuel pressure to about 7 pounds...we thought that would help alot, which it did with the tip-in stutter and overall response, but the loading up problem was still there.
we took out the needle and seat and cleaned and reinstalled them.....that made it worse becasue the float level was to high now....reset the secondary float and it was better but still there.
we took off the carb and took off the bowls,., we cleaned them out and installed the bigger jets (70/78),,...there was much more power in the motor and the response is incredible,,but the loading up is still there...i lowerd the fuel pressure from 7 to 4 and its still there...

im aswell as him are getting fairly annoyed..

Thanks guys
Rob

you don't have a power vavle leaking do ya. check for leaks... if you suspecs the needles are stuck get a kit and rebuild it.. and set the bowls dry then in the car.

4-5 psi is plenty

make sure the timing is set properly.. and the advances are working properly

When its loading up fuel is literally dripping out of the venturis...not the squirters were the pump shot comes out of, but those silver looking circle things directly over the blades...even when i turn the motor off it still drips...this only happens on the secondaries...its not a drip,...drip....its almost a constant stream..
we took the needle and seat out and cleaned it with brakes clean and it seemed to float in there very easily....

the motor runs perfect under cruise...i mean no miss no pop its very smooth...even when i aggresivly tip in its smooth and doesnt stumble...only when i lean into it and open the secondaires it loads up...although it did load up when cruise a coiuple times aswell...

I would drop the fuel pressure first thing, and see if that makes a difference.

#1 go to parts store
#2 Buy Rebuild kit
#3 rebuild it.

What kind of carb is it? For a first timer, a good book cant hurt. When I rebuilt my first Qjet, I went to the local library and checked out a book on it. It was funny, cause the librarian told me that the Auto Help books always come back a little greasy not to worry about it! Make sure to get a bucket of carb cleaner. Not the spray stuff, the carb soaking solution, that you soak the parts in. You will need it, for the best results.

ok smart *** ....its a 4777-c or 650 double pumper...Today i took out the needle and seat again and discoverd some debris in the pocket....i cleaned it out more and reinstalled it...it was 10 times better but still there a little...it only stalled once and refired quite easily although i had to floor it.....tomorrow im going to take the bowl off and clean it out better and run some cleaner through it....i bought a new needle and seat so if that doesnt work ill out the new one in and if that doesnt work ill rebuild the MF'er

I couldnt resist it, but I like to see other people with a good sense of humor too. You may want to go ahead and give it a full rebuild. Its not too expensive, and it can really help a lot.

It HAS to be:

a) needle/seat stuck
b) float too high, or broke
c) fuel pressure too high
d) some sort of internal leakage

I wouldnt even run the car if fuel is leaking into the motor, you risk hydrolocking it, killing the rings, and FIRE. Buy a Holley rebuild kit (not some no-name brand) and have fun. Its not hard to rebuild a carb its all nuts, bolts, and gaskets. Take your time and look at the directions and you'll have no problems.

the floats are dead nuts, i lowered the fuel pressure to 4 pounds...this problem only occurs after i go WOT...and then the secondaries load up....yesterday i cleaned out the needle and seat and the problem ALMOST completly disappeared....the carb has had less then 30 gallons of fuel through it since i bought it new.....i really think i had some crap in the fuel tank that got sucked up...because i ran almost an entire tank of fresh 94 through it and its gotton 100 times better....is there a carb cleaner that u put in the tank?.....im gonna change the inline fuel filter aswell, even though its only a couple years old, and the run that cleaner through it.....

the car was stored (kinda) for almost 6 months with 2/3 of a tank...i burned through that and refilled with some fresh stuff and its gotton a lot better as i said...

It doesnt drip when the motor is off anymore so im no longer worried about hydrolock, and its no longer stalling out, jsut loading up a little now..
