Which Carb for my 350?

Ok i have a 84 z28 with the mods in my sig and im looking to buy a new carb my 750 Edelbrock seems to be killing my car everyone ive talked to professional and back yard mechanic has said a smaller holly will wake my car right up. Im thinking of a Holly street avenger 670cfm carb which said to be good for 400 horses my question is will a 670 be big enough for furture mods maybe heads or a more agressive cam plans i have for much later down the road. Or would i be better off buying the 770 and putting smaller jets in it?

Currently my car is running in the mid 15s its very inconsisitant ive ran 14.7 with it all the way to mid 16s it runs very rich no matter what i do the Tail pipes are always black. When my engine is actually running at its best what kind of power do you think it will be making?

The 670 (650 whatever you want to call it) would work ok. I'd personally try to Jet down your current carb and work with it. But if you don't want to pursue that route there is nothing wrong with a 650VS holley. Might want to really look into a higher stall as that could be hurting your times if you have a stock converter.

I doubt its the edelbrock carb that is "killing your car". What kind of stall are you running? What do you mean by killing the car? on Launch, cruise, WOT, what?

stall is at 1500 by killing the car i mean sometimes it falls flat on its face around 3rd gear but sometimes it will feel strong the whole way threw and ill still run mid 15s. When i ran a 14.7 i cut a 2.291 60foot that was with a broken shock i replaced the shocks still no real imporvement there. 750 cfm dosent seem to big for my engine? the car always runs really rich

When i got the car i was told that the guy who built it ran high 12s with slicks and a higher stall on it which i kinda thought was BS based on the fact it runs no where near that The guy i got the car off had the tranny rebuilt and a lower stall was put in.

If i where to go for a new stall what would u guys suggest? This isnt my daily driver but i do like to drive it occisonaly so i dont want to lose to much streetability. How much does it cost to install a new coverter? (ball park) or is it something fairly simpile to do yourself? Thanks for all the great info guys

Sounds to me like you need to tune the entire setup.

The guy was lying, I doubt it lost 2 seconds. You need a bigger stall. I am guessing you have the 230 .480 cam? Definately need more stall, 1500 is like a stock coverter, will it idle in gear?

Thats not the carbs fault, its whoever tuned it. Fix it.

I use B&M. Some people hate em, some people like em. Vigilante makes a good converter, but they are $$$. As far as installing it, pull the trans, put it on, reinstall trans. No big deal. Take a couple of hours.

Look for something like a 2800. Thats about right. Maybe even a 3000.

Yea i have the 230 480 cam

Ive tried tuneing the car ive taken it to alot of different people nothing seems to really help. Everyone whos ever seen the car has said plain and simple get a new carb then go from there which seemed like a good idea to me i dont like the edelbrock myself.

I thought high 12s was to fast for my car. Ive been told i should be mid to high 13s once its tuned right buts thats really hard to say.

New stall converter is starting to sound pretty good before i get one i want to get it tuned right
