help! fuel coming out of choke horn.....

hi,

got a little problem here. when i try to start the car it runs rough for a few second then it shuts down and fuel comes out of the choke horn and then of the booster venturi. the stock fuel pump runs for about 10 second and then it shuts down.

when i turn the ignition to on, the FPR makes some sound like "clack clack clack" but the pressure stays at around 5.5 psi. its a mallory 3 port return style.

i have removed the neadle and cleaned it but that hasnt helped. the adjustment screw is turned all the way down.

i want to drive the car this evening to a meeting, so help fast please

thanks,
nebu

i have forgotten to say that the carb was completly rebuild...

check the float level through the site plug.If the screw is all the way in then your float might be sinking.I assume you know how to adjust the float level though.I would bench set the float then start over.

yes i removed the fuel bowl and set it dry. when the car runs it is just below the sight plug.

it startet to pour out the fuel since i have replaced my weights in the distributor. but that hasnt much to do with that...

The next step for me is to lower the fuel pressure to about 4 or even 3.After that replace the needle and seat.

I had the exact same problem when i was running 5.5 psi of fuel pressure i dropped it to 4.5 and no problems it was blowing fuel past the needle and seat.

sounds to me like everyone esle said you have a problem with too much fuel getting int othe bowls, either because too much fuel pressure or a needle and seat issue. What fuel pump do you have and exactly what pressure is coming into the carb itself because you shouldnt have any more then 4psi or so.

If it is only doing this on the primary side, swap the N&S with the secondary side to see if the problem follows the N&S or stays with the bowl. This will help you find the problem much quicker. You should not have to run the fuel pressure that low on a carburetor like this.

hi,

sorry for the late post. i've found the problem. the float had a little hole. so it soaked itself with fuel.

i also had a vacuum leak from the pcv. my alternator is broken but the battery was still good for a little burnout in my gateway

Nebu.
