Throttle issues

Ok... I got a free holley street dominator intake manifold, and already had a square-bore carburator (by edelbrock, har har, I'm mixing brands) and figured it would do better than the stock manifold on my engine and the q-jet.

so, I put it on, and other than putting the dizzy on one tooth off (which I fixed) it came off fine.

But now, the throttle is weird. Its like when I mount it its at the wrong angle and the gas pedal feel is VERY, VERY stiff. And on top of that my clutch is stiff as hell too (but thats for the tranny/drivetrain forum) so trying to drive it is frustrating as hell.

Hey, at least the intake manifold flows a hell of a lot better!

You're using the stock throttle cable bracket?

That manifold is taller than stock, but the cable bracket is mounted in the same location, so the cable is at a different angle. You can try bending it or straightening it to see if it makes a difference. Mount the throttle cable stud on the throttle arm as far away from the throttle shaft as possible to maximize the leverage. You can try a weaker return spring, or you can try mounting the spring on the throttle arm closer to the throttle shaft.

Already did that to get it to work, and the return spring isnt the issue... it has to be binding. Same return spring that my stepdad and I used before. Its like we cant bend it any more than we have or get it just right.

Isnt there some kit I could get to get a new bracket?

It doesn't matter if it's the same spring, you've changed the geometry of everything. If you think it's binding, rotate the throttle by hand with the engine off and check it. You can try different aftermarket brackets, which may or may not do what you want.

This may be a dumb question, but besides pissing off the car gods... did using a holley manifold and a edelbrock carburetor screw up the geometry of the throttle bracket and the cable going through it? Previously it was the GM cast manifold and a q-jet.

I just went to get fast food in the Z/28 with that stiff gas pedal and it was freaking scary. If I went soft I'd stall out and if I stomped on it I made a LOOOOT of noise and scared the crap out of people walking up and down the street.

On top of it, the 3.73s make the gears really short, and the clutch fan just adds to the noise. AND my stepdad told me the cops were out tonight....

At least I killed a BMW out of sheer frustration at my stiff clutch and throttle cable... though unless its a M-series its not much of an accomplishment
