Vacuum at carb > question
Hi,
I rebuild an 1982 Camaro, especially the engine.
So now I have a question about all of the vacuum lines going to my carb.
For what are they all???
Thats my first question, my second question goes a little bit in the transmission direction.
Let me explain. 1982 my 'maro became an TH700 in, a few years later, one of the pre-owner, inserted a TH200. So now, 'cause engine is gettin stronger, I can't work with the TH200. I've bought my self an TH350 from an 1980 Chevy Van. The TH350 is working with vacuum right?
So where do I get the needed Vacuum??? And in which pressure areas I need it?
I hope someone understand what I'm writin' here
Thx for your help,
Hawkeye

Your '82 came out of the factory with a TH200C. It never should have had a TH700 (they were optional in '83 and standard in '84). I have a TH350 swapped into my '82. There is a vacuum line that needs to be connected. Hook that into a manifold vacuum port on the carb or you can tap into the intake manifold itself if need be. To verify that the port you are looking to hook into is manifold vacuum, put your finger up to it. You should feel it sucking on your finger, and idle speed will change too (so check this when the engine is running). Make sure you also hook up the kickdown linkage to the carb too. You might try posting in the Tranny/Drivetrain message board as well. For all the other vacuum lines, if you are keeping the stock emissions (if there was any in Germany) there is a slight chance that there will be a sticker under the hood with a diagram with the hose routing still there, but likely it is gone. There is a repair manual that you can get here in the states made by Chilton that has vacuum diagrams in it which might help. Hopefully my rambling will give you something to work from...

I ahve a turbo 350 in mine. I hooked it to a vacume port in the intake also.
The TH-350 trans, regardless of how it came to be in your car (becauase it's sure not original) requires only one vacuum hook-up. The "modulator" located near the tailshaft of the trans, on the passenger side, must be supplied full manifold vacuum at all times in order for the trans to shift correctly at part throttle.
Choose ANY port on the intake manifold or carb that supplies full manifold vacuum when idling (but don't "T" it off the PCV valve line).
