what is needed to hook up electric choke?
This is not for my firebird. This is for my 72 chevy pickup. (no computer crap). I have a carb here that has electric choke setup on it. Currently I run no choke on my carb. The carb has the solenoid piece and the pump thing next to it (wired together with a black wire going from negative of solenoid to corner of pump thing. What wiring goes to the positive? My intake manifold has an opening for choke setups. Isn't there something thats supposed to go into this opening?

The opening in the manifold is for old hot-air chokes. Is this the stock carb for your truck?

not sure about you or your setup but if I remember right on my 71 camaro when I replaced the junked quadrajet with a edelbrock I just hooked the pos wire up to a wire that is attached to the fuse box. that way when the key is on the choke works
seemed to work for me

I'd expect a 72 pickup to have an M4MC with a hot air choke, not an electric choke. You can get a cover for the choke well on the manifold, then just find a source of +12V power that's switched with the ignition. Try not to leave the ignition turned on though without the engine running or the choke will open early.

All you need for an elec choke on a Qjet is a 12v wire thats hot when the power is "ON"... on a Holley, you need that same 12v wire, but also you need a wire to ground from the elec choke coil to the carb body.

Look at a wiring diagram for the truck... look for a wire thats live only with ign in the ON position. On my Camaro, the wire the Qjet used for the choke was light blue.
