Hard warm start
I ooosted to have a problem starting the car cold. No more. It crancks twice and starts. Sometimes it starts even easier.
I noticed my timing was way advanced and the timing was hooked up to the EFE TVS instead of the right vaccum source.
Put her back to stock specs which is 4BTC and the correct dist. source.
Now it's hard to start when it's hot. Easy to start cold. I'm guessin' the carb was set up on the wrong ideling properties and messed up everything else.
What on a Q-Jet would do that?

Help please! I am guessing it has something to do with the 2 mixture screws that are sealed from the factory. My are not sealed anymore and were adjusted before I bought the car. I have never touched them.
How do I set those up properly or am I way off on what I think is wrong.

Does it help to hold the pedal to the floor when trying to start it warm? I'm suspecting leaking well plugs on the bottom of the fuel bowl.

What's ooosted?
That happens to me, either I have my choke thermostat too far CCW, and I get a perfect cold start, flooding hot start, or too far CW, it won't go onto fast idle, but the warm starts are fine...
You shouldn't have to touch the gas at all to start it warm... I'm trying to remind myself of that... I keep doing that, then it floods and I hold the pedal to the floor to start it...
... have you recently adjusted your choke?
The mixture screws (BTW, is this CCC?), you turn them with a vacuum gauge hooked up, in 1/2 turn increment, one then the other, then check the vacuum gauge, keep changing them until you have max vacuum... Mine is about 4 turns out or so....
Upon re-reading your last post it sounds like your choke thermostat is too right (CCW), now that it's getting warmer out.....

I ooosted to have an orange cat but now I have a black one.
My choke still has the factory rivits in it. Never been touched. I've watched it warm up and it behaves as it should.
I just picked up a factory q-jet from the scrap yard from a non CC 86 LG4. Mine is an 85 so it should be close. What ever you can carry for $45 day. Was one of my items. It doesn't look bad, car had 186K km's on it. It has screws in the choke cover instead of rivits like mine. Someone was in there.
I was thinking of putting that one on but am a little worried about the gasket. The gasket on the one I got from the scrap yard looks fine except for those little passages on the bottom where the lead plugs reside. Degraded in that area. Likely the one on my car is no different and I can't buy one now cause everyplace is closed. I'd imagine that area is important since the passages are isolated. What does that area do?
Should I go ahead and swap carbs or wait till I can buy a new gasket?
Or should I try adjusting the mixture screws on mine? I have the tool for adjustment but have never done it before. I have a vacuum gauge too.
Sometimes my warm idle speed is high on my current carb like 1500 RPM. Sometimes it's normal. There are no vac leaks, I've checked it over a bunch of times. Not sure if that has anything to do with my current problems but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Bought a new base gasket and air cleaner/top gasket and threw on the carb from the junkyard. Starts fine cold or hot now.
Watched the choke on the junkyard carb and it behaves exactly like the carb I took off.
What could be wrong with the old carb? Does it need a rebuild or just adjusting?
