out of control idle with holley

I switched from a Q-jet to a holley 600 and can not get it to run right. The engine knocks at idle in gear and every few days the idle will jump to 2000 rpm's when I turn it on. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with jet size or if it's another matter altogether. Right now I'm running size 60 jets. Any info would be appreciated

Also if anyone knows how to re-wire a 700-R4 to work without the computer, please send any info my way.

Is the choke closed when it does this?

A search in the transmission forum should turn up lots of info.

How did you route your vaccum hoses? Did you swap out your distributor when you changed carbs? Electric choke or manual? Sounds like when the engine goes up to 2000 it's just the choke doing it's job.

You need to adjust the fast idle screw down some.

With the car off go WOT and look on the pass side of the carb. There will be a screw at the bottom of the linkages. Unscrew it some and then start the car again.

Do you still have the papers that came with the holley? Its all in there.

BTW I have no computer. And never wired my 700r4 up. I just haven't use the TC lock-up.

When i put my Holley on i had the same problem,I found that the secondairy set screw was holding the secondairies open slightly.Didn't matter how much i set the idle screw down it still idled high. The screw is located at the back of the carb on the passenger side, you have to get at it from the bottom so you'll have to probably take the carb off to adjust it.
