I am in the process of trying to hook up the choke on my 1406 carb. And i was just wondering if, when i hook the wires up and then turn the key, can you see the choke work on the carb, basically what im asking is, is there anyway to get a visual confirmation that the choke is working?

Connect power to the choke and hold the throttle open so that the fast idle cam is off the fast idle screw, and it will open gradually.

I've got my choke wired to the distributor's +12v pink wire, and then grounded to itself. I just unscrewed one of the torx and put it on the body of the carb itself. Works fine.
But yes, just like Apeiron said.

Can you tell when it is opening? What will it do?

Thanks for the picture, so when i hook up the wires, the flap will open

The flap will gradually open, it won't just snap open and shut.
I am haveing a hard time finding where to hook up the wire for the choke, i have the choke hooked up but cannot find a wire that is hot with the key on. Will the wire for the oxygen sensor work? I am trying to avoid running a wire from the fuse box.

I don't think the o2 wire would work because that wire is only to send a signal. I'd go with token and just connect it to the coil wire and just ground the negative wire on one of the carb screws.
Ok, i guess thats what ill do
Ok, i have another question about the choke. I got it hooked up to the distributor. After the car runs for a few minutes is the flap supposed to close? Because mine is not

Once the choke coil warms up, the choke will stay open. Even after you shut the car off it will take some time for the coil to cool enough to close the choke again.
