Best carb for my application?
Best carb for my application?
Hey guys,
I have an 81 TransAm (used to have an 82). I dropped in a 350 4-bolt from a 1974 Impala, with 1971 Corvette, 76cc heads, 2.02:1 intake and 1.6:! exhaust.
I have no idea what cam I should go with, and I don't know what's in there now (another post for another tech board).
With those kinds of cyl heads, and that displacement... I plan on going with a cam that will produce power primarily in the MID-RPM range... with a tendancy more towards the low-RPM torque.
With that in mind, will a 600CFM carburetor be sufficient to power this motor? I have a 780 (??) Rochester NON-CC Carburetor I could use, or my Edelbrock 1405(7??) 600CFM carburetor with electric choke.
I tend to want to use the Edelbrock, but then I have to use a spacer and adaptor and it screws up the shaker on the hood... I'd prefer to use the Rochester, but I don't know if I can get as much power from it?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!!!

the rochester will work, but idle may be an issue, and for sure it will have bogging issues...
your right on the size - a 600-650 would be fine to support the rpm your going to be running with that motor... i guess which style carb you want to use is up to you, i prefer holleys, but plenty of people have no trouble with the edlebrocks either..
