Clearance issues

I just picked up an edelbrock performer rpm intake, for a really good price, and was wondering if I would have problems mounting it with the stock quadrajet and air cleaner, since its a high rise intake. Its goin on an 84 trans am with the 305 H.O. Ill have to by an adapter for the carb, and thats gonna raise it even more, which makes me think im gonna need a new air cleaner, and if i do ima pick up an open element to squeeze out a lil more power .Nowi just gotta get a tranny, lol. Yall have a good one.

I assume this is a "regular" RPM, not an Air Gap.

At any rate, the spreadbore version would be a better bet, because the manifold itself won't cause a height problem, but the adapter you're going to need on the squarebore version will.

I had the same problem. I got a 4" intake with a 750cfm Holley and only had 1" left before touching the hood. I didn't want to cut out the hood for a hood scoop. I tried a small 1" element because that's all it fit but it was too restrictive.
Then I bought Edelbrock's Pro-Flo triangular shape with a reusable foam filter rated at 1000cfm. I had to remove the hood insulation because it was choking it.
However, when I installed hedders, the heat under the hood got so hot, it melted the foam filter into the carb.
So then I custom made an air box and bought a TPI Ram Air assembly, put 2 K&N filters in it and brought in fresh cool air from in front of the rad and problem solved.
