TBI to Q-JET?

Hey guys, i'm doing the TBI to carb swap and here are a few questions....

Can I swap in a computer controlled quadrajet? I have a upgraded cam and intake manifold on my engine, and my tbi would need computer tuning. Did any camaros come without a computer tuned carb? If I swapped a computer controlled Q jet, would I have to tune the computer to make it work on my combo, or just tune it like a normal carburator?

Also, running a 1991 TBI system, what distributor is safe to use as a drop in setup? Thats the other part really confusing me, everything else I have sorted out.

I think the computers that the Qjet used for the CCC system was 'dumb' enough that you could use almost any combo you wanted, so long as it didnt include solid lifters (they don't play nice with the knock sensor)

If you don't have the money, but need a Carb (and already have a CC-QJet), then yes. Just be sure to remove the idle mixture screws before hand, and make little 'slits' in them with a hacksaw, to make adjusting them much easier...

All LG4's came with CC-Quad's.

Once you make you're cuts into the idle screws, it's just a matter of adjusting idle speed, float level, and mixture. But if I were you, I'd sell that CC-Quad (you'll get decent money for it), and by a non CC-Quad. Both Jet Performance, and Summit Racing sell their own versions of remanufactured Quadrajets....

Consider running the stock dizzy, with a chip burned... keeping the ECM in open loop. If not, any vacuum controlled distributor will be just fine.

Good luck.

WHY??? You will need a carb, distributor, $150.00 bypass style fuel pressure regulator, rewiring, new throttle cable and TV cable, new brackets, etc. In the end you will end up with $600.00 spent for the same thing. TBI chip burning is fairly easy and inexpensive. You can get started for $200.00 including a used laptop. It can be an old one and still do just fine.

I got my mallory 3 port for 20 bucks, already had the intake for the build before, got the distributor and a non CC quadrajet off a 2nd gen at the yard today for 40 bucks.... I've gotten my complete swap down for about 100 bucks now, and i already know how to tune carbs, I don't know the TBI stuff and I did ALOT of study trying to understand it and im sure if yes, i spent all the time to learn it and spend the higher cost I would stay TBI, but this just makes more sense.

Solved the linkages with that little spectre bracket from autozone... It can be done very cheap if you are just messing with a "can i do this really really wellll. cheap" LO3 build.

Hooker shorty headers and a custom 2 1/2" dual exhaust- 100

carb swap 100

lt1 cam swap- 50 (lt1 cam, gaskets, new timing chain"
complete tuneup-75
edelbrock intake manifold (performer rpm)- 50
ported the LO3 heads, thats about where i am right now, along with a 4th gen rear and some other suspension tweaks, etc etc

Sorry for my rant... i've read the entire pro/con stuff for the swap and how its cheaper in the end and if you scrounge and wait for good deals sometimes you can make it come out in your favor....

If i built a real motor i'd run a holley DFI setup anyway

Not true. Canadian LG4's had mechanical q-jets.
