carb decision

i have a buddy who just got a 750 double pumper.
i have a 600 edlebrock.
with the set up i have in the sig and my goals of running high\mid 11's would it be wise to try a trade?
what would i change on my set up if anything? how different can i expect the car to run, drivablility wise and performance wise?

id prolly step up to a holley 670 or mebbe a 700.but a 750 double pumper would be too much fuel unless you rejetted the carb and re tuned it.i run a 355 with a 670 now but since im upgraging to a solid roller cam ,solid roller lifters and roller rockers with new world sportsman 2 heads with a 200 cc runner im going to have to upgrade my carb to a 750 dual feed single pumper which will be plenty..i have an ad on racingjunk .com with a whole bunch of stuff for sale.the 670 carb is for sale also.....

The Holley SA carbs are overpriced and overhyped. It would definately not be an upgrade over a 750 DP. (Sorry to dump on a potential sale for you, but this Board is intended for the exchange of technical information, not as a place to get rid of your unwanteds. Classifieds forums excepted, of course.)

The 750 DP would not be too big for a 350. Of course you would have to tune it, that would be the case regardless of what engine it went on.

When you say "trade", are you saying giving him your carb for his, or simply "upgrading" your Edelbrock for a similar 750 DP? If the former, and he offered and you declined, that would be the day two fools met.

With a manual transmission, a double pumper (AKA mechanical secondaries) carb is the way to go. You'll need significant upgrades to get a 350 into the 11's, by the time you're done with everything else a 750 CFM carb can pretty much be considered a must.

You're excused.

My apologies for coming off so terse. Sometimes I try too hard to help people avoid the mistakes I've made. And, sometimes it's difficult for people to discern the difference between what I'm posting as a fellow member and what I'm saying as a mod (in this case, it's all as a fellow member).

Anyway. . .

The SA carbs have been discussed here since they were introduced. Their only "advantage" over a universal VS carb is one extra vacuum port. Otherwise, you can get the pieces to upgrade a uni to have everything the SA has for less money than the SA costs.

The real point is that with a manual transmission, you really don't want a VS carb, or a demand-based secondary carb of any kind, if you can avoid it. If this is a straight-across trade, getting the Holley to put on a manual tranny car is a great deal (assuming the Holley isn't fubar). With the performance goals that have been stated, the bigger carb will only enhance the possibilities of achieving them.
