Tunnel ram or duel carb question
I would like to put a Holley tunnel ram, w/ 2 450 carbs on the top of my L98 350. This is what i have ATM....
-rebuilt L98 350 lower end (out of 1988 GTA)
-Camshaft, Hydraulic Roller Tappet, Advertised Duration 296/300, Lift .539/.548 (edl-2204)
-full Edelbrock TES exhaust
-Cylinder Heads, Edelbrock Performer, Aluminum, 60cc Chamber, 165cc Intake Runner, 2.02 int 1.60 ex (EDL-60859)
-mallory fuel pres reg
-HV oil pump w/ oil cooler
-msd blaster coil
-and then if i go tunnel ram...a distrib that will fit behind it
-stock water pump ATM
-roller cam gear drive set
How do you think this combo will run with the tunnel ram/ duel carb setup? I'm going for more of the "look" than the "speed" aspect and the tunnel ram appeals to that need. Thank you for your help.

It'll be a street dog, easily out-run on the track by simplier single-4bbl cars, but at least you'll get the looks.

A stock or mild stall converter is not going to cut it. Either are low 2.73 ratio gears.
I'd recomend a 9" 3500stall "lock up" torque converter and 4.10 rear gearing . The motor will want increased initial timing at idle with the Edelbrock hyd roller cam and tunnel ram. ( modifyed distributor curve.)
The car will run rough at idle until the tunnel ram's runner and plenum heats up some. Allow the motor and intake manifold to fully "warm up" before expecting good throttle response. The carbs will need specific accelerator pump tuning. A tunnel ram is much bigger internally than a single
carb intake. Needs more pump shot volume.
Use a 4.5" power valve in each carb.
Preset the carbs throttle opening at idle so the throttle blades are correctly aligned with the idle fuel transfer slots ( .020-.030" exposure) then use initial timing to get good idle speed. The carbs throttle opening position at idle most be in this "sweet spot" and even opening between the two carbs or the idle will be rich and throttle response will suck.
Once set up correctly a Tunnel Ram is very responsive and drivable on the street. When set up right these manifolds make more torque and power than a single plane manifold from 3500rpm up. Should work well.
The trick is to let the intake runners warm up before driving it.
Edelbrock just released a new Performer RPM air gap Dual Quad manifold ( hi rise dual plane design) that willrock with two 500cfm edelbrock carbs on your motor.

thanks for the info
what do you guys suggest as far as motor mounts? will the engine shake too much back and forth? will this cause a carb issue?

I like the urethane engine , trans and torque arm mount from Energy Suspension.
When set up right your enigine will not "shake".
Don;t even think about solid mounts.

solid mounts would probably destroy the unibody, if im not mistaken. i would like to see a lil torque action when i get on it a little
