feedback carb

i'm taking my air injection pump, cat, swaping in some headers, and putting a vaccum advance distributor in place for the electronic controlled one, on my 84 trans am. Someone told me that its going to affect the feedback rodchester carb on it and not supply it the proper amount of fuel. I was wondering if this is true.

Yup, its true. You need a non-computer controlled carb. But why not leave the computer controlled distributor and carb on there? Just because you removed the emitions and added headers won't affect the carb and distributor. And you'll get better power and mileage out of those parts over mechanical-only parts.

I was hoping i woudln't have to change the carb, so none of my emission control system will effect the carb if i take it all off? But if i remove the distributor it will?

Why do you think you need to change the distributor?

I'll have to admit, it is a bit of fresh air. Most people ask if they can keep their CC distributor when they change the carb . . .

The computer carb and distributor work together. One cannot work properly without the other. You need to keep both, or remove both, you cannot use just one of the two.

Removing the emitions components will not affect the computer carb and distributor. They function just fine without it. I know becuase I did it for a long time on my 305. Beleive me when I say that keeping the computer carb and distributor WILL work to your advantage - your gas mileage will be better than a non-computer setup can give you, and the performance will also be better too.

You would be well advised to keep the computer carb and distributor in there.
