Adjusting Mixture Control Solenoid travel
Hi guys, I read somewhere (in the factory service manual maybe) that the mixture control solenoid travel should be around 3/32". When I rebuilt the carb I didn't tamper with the MCS adjustment, but I did check it just with a paper carb adjustment ruler. It was well under 3/32" depressing the MCS with my finger. It was maybe 2/32", or a little less. The carb came off a 1983 Caprice 305 auto car and is now on a 305 TPI longblock controlled by a 1983 F body ecu. Should I reset the MCS to 3/32"? I don't have an adjuster tool, but I do have a dial indicator with a magnetic base. This will give me a very very accurate reading of the MCS travel to within 0.001". Will this work?

Having less travel creates a smaller window of adjustment for the metering rods on the primaries, giving them less authority over fuel mixture.
I didnt use a special tool to adjust mine, i used a small peice of that hard, black, hose that is all over the engine bay. It works great, ecspecially if you get it hot and press it down on the screw and let it cool to its shape (it works either way though). Its also great for adjusting the TPS sensor. Use an elbo peice if you can, it makes it easier to count turns. But i've also taken a small straight peice and stuck it over the tip of a torx-bit screw driver, that was nice too. Either way, if you're that close in adjustment it probably only needs 1/8-1/4 turns to fix it.
