Secondaries not opening all the way
hi,
are the secondaries supposed to be like this at WOT? (sorry for the cellphone pic. i get better pics when my camera is here, but you get the idea) its a 650 double pumper

i can bend the little rod a bit so that they are fully open, but then they are too much exposed at idle.
any ideas?
nebu.

Bend the link as much as you can without affecting the "closed" opening. 650 cfm on a 305 is not going to suffer with slightly less than fully open secondaries.

You can't compare Q-jets to Holleys. Q-Jets puposely don't open the throttle blades to 90deg because of the HUGE difference in size between the Primaries and Secondaries. The Q-Jet secondaries are designed to deflect the air\fuel stream towards the front cylinders to equalize the mixture. Modifying the linkage on a Q-jet to open 90 deg can cause the rear cylinders to run rich and the front cylinders lean.
