I have a question. I bought an '87 Firebird with a carburated LG4 for a parts car. I have a 1992 Firebird V6 that I am going to swap to a carburated V8, hence the parts car. I am going to put the LG4 in the '92 temporarily until I can get my other motor finished. (Building a 383) I am getting rid of all emmissions and computer equipment and going with an older HEI and carb.
My question is the LG4 has a mechanical pump on the block like all traditional small blocks have. Well, I pulled the tank to get the fuel pickup because I thought it would be an older type without the electronic pump. But, to my suprise, It had a pickup with an electronic pump also!? So, is this stock from the factory? I have heard of people running an electronic pump with a carb using an adjustable regulator, but there was none on this car. The car ran great when I got it because I drove it before I took it apart. I just can't figure out an electronic AND a mechanical pump being on the car together. I would rather get rid of the electronic pump if possible.

Thanks

Dont quote me but I think some of the 305's had a mechanical and a "helper" pump in the tank. I think they came with the HO motors.

Some cars had the in-tank electric pump from the factory, some had it added by the dealer to prevent vapor lock.

i'd suggest in your future setup, remove the fuel pump from the '92 car, (in tank) and just get a normal fuel pump (block mounted) and run that only. A return style pump preferably.
