fuel pouring down into barrels---holly dp

I got my rear end problem situated and decided to take the car for a test drive. As Im pulling onto my street, the car starts to die. Im rolling at a decent speed, so I press the clutch and she dies on me. I coast it back in, pop the hood and pull the air cleaner off. I switch on the fuel pump and it seems that fuel is pouring out of the top of the metal "tube" on hy Holley (600DP MS) and into the secondary barrels. I wasnt getting on it too much, and I havent had any problems out of this carb so far until this. Could it be that my secondary float got stuck and blew out a seal or something?

i doubt it blew out a seal, but it's definitely stuck. i'd try smacking it with the but end of a decent sized screwdriver and see what that does for you. if there is trash in the needle/seat assembly then that may knock it loose.

if this does not fix the issue, go ahead and ****** the carb off the motor and pull the back float bowl. make sure there is no fuel getting into the float (sometimes they create little pin holes along the seams, and they will sink, then it's a matter of simply replacing the float.) take the needle/seat assembly out and blow everything out with carb cleaner. reassemble, don't forget to set the float level. i do this put turning the float bowl upside down, then adjust till the float is half-way up the float site. put the carb back on the car and see if that fixed your problem

BTW, your motor is DIEING for a 750 or larger carb.

lol, well actually theres a guy up here in Gainesville thats got some kinda speedshop that we deliver to. Hes got a rebuilt 750DP MS with the choke hirn and all that already milled off, he said he take $250, still wrapped in plastic from the rebuild. But I told a friend of mine whos got a 79 Camaro that she could have my carb when I get the 750, and now it does this. Im pretty much giver her the carb, but I still dont wanna give it to her knowing that somethings wrong with it.

fix it like i said and you'll be good to go. just FYI, it IS possible that the needle/seat assembly is worn out. if that is the case, then you will want to replace the assembly. go back to your buddy at the Speedshop with the 600 in hand and ask him the questions and have him show you what to look for.

I agree with everything Matt says, except you don't really have to pull the carb to get the secondary bowl off and fix a float/needle/seat problem.

no, but it makes a mess if it's still on the car...and it doesn't take anything to take the carb off the car.

Guess I should mention that I made a little fuel bowl catch cup out of an old plastic oil bottle bottom. Pull a bottom bowl screw with the catch cup under the screw, keeps things cleaner and safer.
