Fuel Injection or carb?
Fuel Injection or carb?
Hi everyone! I plan on replacing my motor and not sure to go carb or fuel injection. Right now I have a 86 IROC-Z (tpi) and my next motor I want 700-800hp and to run 10s or faster. What way should I go on this? Pros? Cons? any advice would be great! Thank you.

in my personal opinion if your building this pup for strickly speed go and find your self a 400SB carbed. The reason why i say carbd is because it is all mechanical so therefore you can just take a wrench to it to fix it, where a FI is run by a comp and if one minute thing goes wrong you are BONED!!!! especially if your ready to run a big 1/4 mile. But at the same time it is easier to bump up the HP in FI because you just buy chips.

carb...FI is such a pain in the ****. like the others said, with FI one second you're running fine, next second your computer goes **** up and your not moving too far.

I feel a bit differently...to me, carbs are a pain, cause I know little about how they work. I know FI like the back of my hand.
FI is the best thing since sliced bread. Just like carburetors, it needs to be tuned, though.
Tuning can be done at the track with about $500 in equipment(that includes the used laptop). Buying chips might get you a close setup, but an optimum setup will be custom tailored to your vehicle.
If you get your setup close before you go to the track, I don't imagine it 'blowing up'.<--(if someone else has witnessed this, maybe they can chime in on what happened). Also, if a carb has a minute vac leak or other misadjustment, it can act all sorts of weird as well.
There are wonderful tech articles and and the prom burning forum on this site, and they can teach you how to 'turn the wrench' on FI.
In the end, a carb is cheaper, and the world has more exp. with them. If this is a drag only car, a carb will work. On the street, FI is miles ahead.
Whichever you choose, you will need tuning time. It just changes the tools you need to tune it.

aggressive, it would cost you about 10000$ to build an engine like that (blower, forged piston, forged crank, Heads, and a full thank of alcool but not to drink!!!) and an other 10k$ to get under the 10!!Anyway,
Go whit carb, you are not limited to build about any power you want, and to have the 'More HP you want' you can go whit SB2 head whit offset lifter and a real big roller Cam (Nascar stuff) they have many of them on E-Bay from Nascar Team
And I personally think that EFI on a GM is a ticket to HELL
Did you preffer to drink in a straw or in a bottle!!! its the same!!
