Using both the pickup and return lines to feed external pump

Using both the pickup and return lines to feed external pump

I'm close to the limit of the 3/8" factory pickup. Has anyone ever tried using both the factory pickup AND return lines to feed an external electric pump? The return line pours fuel when uncapped, so there's definitely a gravity feed there.

Transmission: TH400 4,000 stall
Axle/Gears: Currie 9", 4.56 gears
Just bite the bullet and step up to a bigger feed line. The return line dumps fuel into the tank from the top, there is no pickup that goes to the bottom other than the feed line.

It looks like the return line goes all the way down to the sock on the pickup:
