rev limiter
rev limiter
anyone had a problem like this, what is happening is at 7000rpm my rev limiter is kicking in , i have a msd digital 6 + w/ msd hei streetfire distributer, the distributer is modified per msd directions and control module was removed, i have talked to msd tech and they told me to route all my wires to msd box away from other wires - did'nt help then told me to close the gap on my plugs from 35 to 30 - did'nt help then said to run ground wire from head to head and then to chassis -- did'nt help ive set the rev limiter to 9000 rpm to see if something could be screwed up with it , that made no differance , then got another msd box -- still did'nt help what else could be causing this? the msd box is mounted close to the battery on inner fender , all wires are ran away from everything else , i'm using ngk v-groove racing plugs ,only thing ive not tried is changing coil and cap and rotor , any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you running the pickup coil straight to the MSD box, or is the module still in place? I've heard valve float sound just like a rev limiter before so that could also be a possibility.
module has been removed and wired straight fom box to pickup coil, ive had a couple people look at it also and they say it is rev limiter too, i changed cap rotor and coil today to see if any change , its still doing it, called msd tech again the only thing left that they know to do is wrap wires from msd box to distributor with aluminum foil and ground one end of the foil to the battery to eliminate any electrical interferance , so i will try this on my next day off from work hopefully it will take care of it

here is what i came up with , the last thing msd wanted me to try is to run car with dist. wired factory without msd box , and it still did it
,so hooked it back up again then next day the msd box quit working , so got fed up with it ( this stuff is about two months old) so took everything back to my local speed shop and returned it and went with a mallory unilte dist. a mallory promaster coil , and a mallory hyfire digital Vl box hooked it all up and there is no problem with rev limiter anymore

Wow, major strike for MSD. I wonder if those boxes don't have a factory set rev limiter? I'm going to go set my rev limiter to 7200 and spin my motor up to where it rev limits (around 5800 on the tach, 6100 on the Digicon) and see if it's not the MSD 6A box doing it.
